I was able to install the Scratchbox cross-compilation toolkit and the Maemo SDK without too much trouble, following the steps in the tutorial; when I went astray, reading the developer mailing list archives helped me get back on track quickly. I haven't done much development for the platform yet, but I can give you the flavor of the environment by showing you a do-nothing Hildon application in C++:
