Joy, I finally have USB host mode working, now I can start on one app I’d like for the 770 (to be announced…) I soldered +5 inside a powered Iogear GUH274 micro hub, and then used an adapter from a USB connector kit I bought at a bargain store strictly for its humor value. In addition to the connector I used, the kit included adapters from USB to RJ11 and RJ45, that let you turn the included USB male to male cable (an abominination in and of itself) to a phone cable or ethernet extension cable.

The Nokia 770 has limited storage capacity. RS-MMC cards exist up to 1Gb and phones seldom has more, most a lot less. To watch movies or listen to music you need more storage capacity. Looking a bit around on a 770 with an Xterm reveals that the kernel has support for both ext2 and ext3 filesystems often used on harddisks, and it has support for the nfs network file system. On a system with limited ressources like the tablet such features would not have been enabled unless they serve a purpose.

Since the USB interface on the 770 has been designed to support both the flash memory interface and the TCP over USB interface the hard part has already been done. So now our problem becomes two separate problems. The first is to manage the interface on the Nokia so it looks like a USBNet interface. The second is to get the WinXP system to configure to talk over it.
